The Competition
Countries compete, in a world-wide game following established rules for the maximum achievement in this relay.
Countries´ rules of the game:
A broad, reticulate "main route" and a global ramification weave the whole globe in a world-wide web of darkness and light.
- a number of entry points, where the signal is taken over from preceding countries,
- hand-over points, where the signal is transferred to the following countries,
- an emergency start time for the case the signal is not arriving in time,
- a stop time where the counting of established connections is terminated for that country.
- a relay from at least one entry to all exits,
- in addition, as many light connections as possible on the country´s territory.
Every country gains points per established connection on its territory, weighted with a factor accounting for its population density and economic situation.
For every country not reaching an exit point the score is reduced by a factor that is calculated from the distance between that exit and the nearest entry.
The winner country´s Physical Society will be awarded an honorary certificate and a medal at EPS-13 in Bern in July 2005.
