There
has to be a direct visual connection between the stations. That means that
the light from one station should be seen by the next one. Of course it will
be helpful to stay in touch by phone and email, but this should only parallel
the light connection. Every station should switch on the light only after
they have visually perceived the light from the previous one.
As
a participant stick to the following schedule:
Now:
-
Spread the message among your friends and encourage them to participate.
-
Look for places in your area with free sight, plan a route for your connection.
-
Select a proper light source, try out if it is being seen over the distance
required.
-
If possible, determine the geographical coordinates of your places (use
GPS or try these websites for the U.S.A.
or other
countries)
- Register
using the online form.
If you include your coordinates you will be informed about the approximate
time the signal will reach your location. You will receive an ID for accessing
the database.
- Search
the database to find the partners, from whom you will receive the signal
and to whom you will transmit it. Contact them.
- Try
out the connections together with your partners, report the successful trial
to the database.
April 18 / 19, 2005:
-
Be at your place well before the time the signal is expected. Carry with
you your light source (including essential accessories like spare batteries,
matches etc.) and a mobile phone.
-
Stay in phone contact with your partners.
-
Be alert! After receiving the signal you have 1 minute to pass it on. Swich
off the light immediately hereafter! React fast!
- Send
an SMS containing your ID to the contact phone number to ensure that your
connection is counted for the World Record and the score of your country.
